GENESIS 24
Ever wonder how matches were made back in Abraham’s time? In Genesis 24, Susan and Heather talk about Eliezer’s story in the time before dating apps.
HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
This episode was all about how Isaac and Rebekah found each other and got married. To be successful in that, they both had to be in tune with God and willing to obey. Why is their love story so much more developed than other pivotal couples in the Bible? It is because Isaac and Rebekah foreshadow Christ and the church.
Abraham represents God seeking a wife, the church, for his son, Jesus. Isaac represents Jesus who, like Isaac, submitted himself in obedience to his father. Abraham’s servant represents the Holy Spirit, who draws us to Christ. Rebekah represents the believer.
I didn’t pair that together myself but it is a perfect foreshadowing. I love how God leaves in details for us along the way, connecting the Old with the New Testament to present day.
What did you learn from Genesis 24? Did you have a Bible bender?
