HAYLEY’S BIBLE BENDER:
My food for thought from this episode was in Susan’s comparison between the symbolism of Isaac and Ishmael. Susan explains it this way, “There are two modes of religious life today: Ismael, born of human effort, is a type of people who think they can serve God in their own way, by only their own effort. In other words, born of the ‘flesh’. Isaac, on the other hand, represents the person who recognized that by himself, in his fallen nature, he can do no good thing. In other words, born of the ‘Sprit’.”
It definitely makes me think about how I want my religious life to be of the Spirit and not of my human effort.
